The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced a countrywide trade union action tomorrow (18), targeting hospitals across Sri Lanka, according to GMOA spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe.
The strike is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. and may disrupt medical services.
Dr. Wijesinghe stated that the strike is in response to disciplinary actions taken against GMOA Uva Provincial Coordinator and Assistant Secretary Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa without a formal complaint.
The GMOA has given the Health Ministry a 14-day deadline to address the issue and initiate a restructuring process. If no positive response is received within this time, the GMOA’s Central Committee will decide on further action at the end of the month.
