Government Accelerates Plans to Transform Colombo Port into Green Port by 2025

The government has decided to expedite the transformation of the Colombo Port into a green port by 2025. The Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Ministry has planned to take all necessary measures to achieve this objective within the set timeframe.

The Chinese government, a major economic power, has expressed its willingness to provide the necessary technology for this transformation. A delegation led by Wang Xiao Jie, Deputy Director General of China’s Shanghai Urban Transport Commission, held discussions on July 2 with Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva and other ministry officials.

During the discussions, both parties addressed obstacles affecting trade and shipping between the two countries and agreed to increase the use of the Port of Colombo for the transhipment of TEUs and other cargo.
