Government Seeks Japanese Assistance to Complete Central Expressway, Promises to Address Kandy’s Traffic Woes

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that the government has initiated steps to complete the Central Expressway project, holding discussions with the Japanese Ambassador to request assistance in its completion.

Speaking at an election rally in Kandy, President Dissanayake highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling traffic congestion in the city. He mentioned that a recent review was conducted to assess the progress of ongoing projects in Kandy, with plans to restart stalled initiatives.

“Many projects, like the construction of the Good Shed Bus Stand, have come to a halt. Plans for bus terminals in Katugastota, Peradeniya, and Tennakumbura have also stalled. We will secure funding soon to resume these constructions,” he stated.
