Group of US Congressmen demand to take action against Sri Lanka

Around 12 members of the US Congress who are from both Democratic and Republican parties demanded to the Biden administration to take necessary actions against Sri Lanka to held accountable for crimes committed against the Tamil people.

The letter was sent to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken by the members and it urged to the State Department to follow Article 30 of the “United Nations Convention Against Torture” to take actions against Sri Lankan.

The letter mentioned that any mechanism has been failed to held responsible “Sri Lankan government or any other party” over the allegation of crimes against Tamils.

“Canada and the Netherlands recently took Syria to the ICJ under the provisions of the Convention and we hope to see the same happen for Sri Lanka”, the letter further added.
