The Department of Meteorology has announced that showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Additionally, heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (September 2).
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
The Met Department further indicated that strong winds of 40-50 km/h can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead in Sri Lanka between August 28 and September 6 due to its apparent southward motion. The nearest locations where the sun will be overhead today (September 2) at approximately 12:09 PM include Marawila, Narammala, Mawathagama, and Kalmunai, according to the Met Department.
