Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Forecasted in Several Provinces: Met Department Advises Caution

The Department of Meteorology has announced that showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts.

Additionally, showers or thundershowers may occur in a few locations in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night. Strong winds ranging from 40-50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead across Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 6 due to its apparent southward motion. Today (September 3), the sun will be directly overhead at around 12:09 p.m. in locations including Negombo, Gampola, Bibile, and Akkaraipattu.
