Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Expected as Intertropical Convergence Zone Impacts Island’s Weather

The Meteorology Department has announced that the Intertropical Convergence Zone, where winds from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet, is currently influencing the island’s weather.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island during the afternoon or night, with some areas likely to experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm. Additionally, the department noted that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Mannar, and Mullaittivu districts, during the morning hours.

The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
