The Department of Meteorology forecasts intermittent showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya.
Fairly heavy showers, approximately 50 mm, are likely in some areas within the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the districts of Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Puttalam.
Showers or thunderstorms may also develop in parts of the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Strong winds of 40-50 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Cloudy skies are anticipated in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Central provinces.
The public is urged to take necessary precautions against damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead in Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 6, due to its apparent southward motion. Today (29), the sun is directly above Oddusuddan, Mankulam, Terankandal, and Mallavi around 12:11 p.m., according to the Meteorology Department.
