The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has decided to closely monitor the activities of state officials during the Presidential Election period.
HRCSL Commissioner Attorney-At-Law Nimal Punchihewa emphasized that state officials must adhere to existing election laws following the announcement of the Presidential Election.
He stated that government officials are obligated to uphold the rule of law.
Punchihewa noted that state officials promoting certain candidates in violation of the law constitutes a human rights violation.
Therefore, he stressed the importance of ensuring that state officials and institutions do not violate human rights during the Presidential Election period.
