ICC Announces September Player of the Month Shortlists

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the shortlists for September’s ICC Player of the Month awards, celebrating the exceptional individual performances in international cricket throughout a packed month of action.

Men’s Player of the Month Nominees

The shortlist for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month includes three previous winners, all vying for their second award. Among the nominees are two Sri Lankan Test stars and a versatile Australian all-rounder.

  • Travis Head (AUS): Head aims for his second ICC Men’s Player of the Month award after an outstanding performance in limited-overs cricket against Scotland and England. He amassed 430 runs and took six wickets in the short format series, including a dominant unbeaten 154 and key wickets in the ODI series.
  • Prabath Jayasuriya (SL): Jayasuriya, the former winner of the July 2022 award, was a standout performer for Sri Lanka in September, taking nine wickets in two crucial Test matches against New Zealand. His pivotal five-wicket haul in the first Test helped seal a memorable win.
  • Kamindu Mendis (SL): Mendis continued his incredible form in 2024, scoring 451 runs at an average of 90.20 in four Tests, including two centuries against New Zealand. He became the first player to score fifty in each of his first eight Tests and the fastest batter in 75 years to reach 1,000 Test runs.

Women’s Player of the Month Nominees

The ICC Women’s Player of the Month shortlist highlights three exceptional players from England, Ireland, and the UAE.

  • Tammy Beaumont (ENG): Beaumont seeks her second Player of the Month award after scoring 279 runs in five matches, including a dominant 150* in an ODI against Ireland.
  • Aimee Maguire (IRE): The 18-year-old left-arm spinner impressed with career-best figures of 5 for 19 in Ireland’s first ODI win over England since 2001 and continued her strong form in the T20I series.
  • Esha Oza (UAE): UAE skipper Oza secured her second nomination after a stellar all-round performance in the Capricorn Women’s Tri-Series, where she scored 209 runs and took eight wickets across six T20I matches.

Voting Process

Nominees are selected based on their performances from the start to the end of each calendar month. The ICC Voting Academy, consisting of prominent cricket journalists, former players, broadcasters, and ICC Hall of Fame members, holds 90% of the vote. Fans can cast their votes via the ICC website, accounting for the remaining 10%. Winners will be announced on the second Monday of each month across ICC’s digital platforms.
