An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team, led by Peter Breuer, is currently in Colombo for a staff visit. A spokesperson for the IMF told News 1st that the team’s purpose is to discuss recent economic developments and follow up on the implementation of targets under Sri Lanka’s economic reform program, which is supported by the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility.
State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe stated that the IMF team will meet with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe today to discuss the country’s Extended Fund Facility.
Semasinghe confirmed that this visit marks the beginning of a series of staff discussions aimed at securing financial support. He also emphasized that, despite the ongoing election period, President Wickremesinghe has prioritized the implementation of agreements with the IMF.
