An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will soon travel to Sri Lanka to conduct the third review of the country’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, as announced by Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department.
During an IMF press briefing held today (Nov 1), Srinivasan responded to a question regarding the EFF review, noting, “Shortly after the new government took office, we conducted a mission in Sri Lanka and held productive discussions with the President and his team. It is evident that Sri Lanka has made significant progress under the program, and it’s crucial to preserve these gains and build on the achievements made so far.”
He highlighted the commitment of Sri Lanka’s new government to the IMF-supported program, particularly with respect to fiscal and debt objectives. “A team from Sri Lanka recently visited Washington to advance discussions for the upcoming review, and these talks are progressing well. Our team is set to return to Sri Lanka to continue these negotiations as part of the third review process,” Srinivasan added.
