Individuals with urgent passport needs can now apply directly with supporting documents to expedite their applications.
Speaking at a press conference today (04), Acting Controller General of Immigration, D.M.D. Nilusha Balasuriya, announced that in response to the high demand for fast-tracked travel permits, the Immigration Department has established an independent committee to review urgent requests on a case-by-case basis.
Balasuriya explained that applicants requiring immediate passports must still book an appointment through the standard process. However, in critical circumstances, they may submit verified documents to the department before their scheduled date to demonstrate their urgent need.
“We have set up an independent committee specifically for urgent cases. Applicants should present documentation that verifies their need, allowing them to receive timely assistance. However, any presentation of forged or fraudulent documents will result in strict legal action,” Balasuriya warned.
