India Record Lowest-Ever Home Test Total with 46 All Out Against New Zealand

India hit a historic low in home Test cricket on Thursday (October 17) as they were bowled out for just 46 runs in their first innings against New Zealand on Day 2 of the first Test of the three-match series in Bengaluru.

This dismal score is now India’s lowest total in a home Test match, surpassing their previous low of 75 against the West Indies in New Delhi in 1987.

New Zealand’s fast bowlers dominated in overcast conditions, with Matt Henry spearheading the attack, taking 5 wickets for just 15 runs, while William O’Rourke picked up 4 wickets for 22. India’s batting lineup collapsed, with four batsmen, including former captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, falling for ducks.

This collapse also marks the lowest score by any international team in India, breaking Sri Lanka’s previous record of 55 all out, set during an ODI against India at Wankhede Stadium in 2023.

Here’s a look at the lowest scores in India across all formats:

  • Test Matches: 46 by India vs New Zealand, Bengaluru, 2024
  • ODIs: 55 by Sri Lanka vs India, Wankhede, 2023
  • T20Is: 66 by New Zealand vs India, Ahmedabad, 2023
  • T20 Domestic: 30 by Tripura vs Jharkhand, Dhanbad, 2009
