On Saturday, newly-appointed Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha met with Sri Lanka’s former president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, to discuss the enduring relationship between the two nations and India’s unwavering support to Sri Lanka over several decades.
In a statement, the Indian High Commission posted on X, “High Commissioner @santjha met former President @PresRajapaksa and discussed Sri Lanka’s age-old relationship with India, as well as India’s consistent support to Sri Lanka over the last several decades as a close friend and neighbor.”
Assuming office as the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka in December 2023, Santosh Jha, a seasoned Indian diplomat, previously served as India’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg. His diplomatic career includes a prior assignment in Colombo from 2007 to 2010, where he served as Counsellor at the High Commission, overseeing matters related to commerce and the economy.
Reflecting on his earlier tenure in Sri Lanka, Jha expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to Colombo, considering it a privilege to contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral friendship and cooperation.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of Rajapaksa and his family being removed from power amid anti-government protests in 2022, triggered by an economic crisis in the island nation. Source: PTI
