Inland Revenue to Begin Collecting Unpaid Self-Assessment Taxes from Defaulters Starting Tomorrow

The Inland Revenue Department has announced that it will begin entering the premises of individuals who have not settled their self-assessment income tax payments, starting tomorrow, to collect the overdue taxes.

Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Sepalika Chandrasekera, reported that as of September 30, a total of 1,417 billion rupees had been collected in taxes. She further stated that the tax revenue target for this year is set at 2,024 billion rupees.

Chandrasekera also confirmed that 600 billion rupees in outstanding tax revenue will be collected. The Inland Revenue Department added that this collection drive will be carried out with the assistance of officers from regional IRD offices as well as the head office.
