In a significant move to address non-communicable diseases (NCD) and reduce associated fatalities in Sri Lanka, the Japanese government has generously contributed a donation of 500 million yen worth of state-of-the-art medical equipment to the Sri Jayawardenepura General Hospital.
The initial phase of the donation involves the receipt of medical equipment valued at 49 million yen. The official handover ceremony transpired today (6), with the event being presided over by the Minister of Health and Industry, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Japan, Mizukoshi Hideaki.
In this initial phase, crucial modification equipment for the Angio-CT machine, comprising Radiology Equipment (Angio-CT Machine) and Surgical Instrument sets, has been delivered. Additionally, the donation includes ophthalmic equipment, featuring an Automated Refractometer and Three Slit Lamp. Notably, the Intensive Care Unit has been augmented with three beds and one recovery bed, thereby enhancing the hospital’s critical care capabilities. This strategic collaboration aims to fortify Sri Lanka’s healthcare infrastructure and contribute significantly to the well-being of its citizens.
