Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on an official visit to India, engaged in discussions with India’s National Security Advisor on Monday (Feb. 05).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dissanayake highlighted that the focal points of the meeting included discussions on regional security and the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Vijitha Herath, the National Executive Member of the National People’s Power (NPP), also participated in the meeting.

Dissanayake is leading a delegation from his party-led NPP alliance during a five-day, three-city visit to India, covering New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Indian media underscored the significance of the visit and meetings, noting that this marks the first time New Delhi has extended an invitation to the JVP leader.

Additionally, Dissanayake held talks with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, addressing Sri Lanka’s economic challenges and future prospects. Minister Jaishankar assured that, in line with India’s Neighbourhood First and SAGAR policies, India would consistently serve as a reliable friend and trusted partner to Sri Lanka.
