K.M.M. Siriwardena Resumes Duties as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance

K.M.M. Siriwardena, re-appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Policy Formulation, Planning, and Tourism, officially resumed his duties today, September 25. The event was attended by Deputy Secretaries of the Treasury, heads of departments under the Ministry of Finance, and other senior officials.

With over 30 years of service at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Mr. Siriwardena has held prominent positions, including Deputy Governor, Assistant Governor, and Director of the Economic Research Department. He served as the Alternate Executive Director for the IMF Constituency, which includes India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, from July 2017 to October 2019.

Additionally, he was on release to the Ministry of Finance from October 2010 to April 2015, where he served as the Director General of the Fiscal Policy Department and as Additional Director General of the National Planning Department.

Mr. Siriwardena has represented the Treasury on the boards of several institutions, including the Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, National Savings Bank, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Board of Investments of Sri Lanka, Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation, and the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority.

He holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from Vanderbilt University, USA, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Special) degree in Economics from the University of Kelaniya. Mr. Siriwardena has also participated in numerous international training programs focused on macroeconomic management, monetary policy, public financial management, and financial programming. He has contributed several articles to publications such as the South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research Studies and CBSL Staff Studies.
