Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officially announced on Monday (26 Feb.) that the inaugural edition of the Lanka T10 League is slated to take place from December 12 to December 22, 2024. Originally planned for June 2023, the tournament underwent rescheduling, with SLC deeming the ‘December window’ as the most suitable timeframe for the league.
The Lanka T10 League, a recent addition to Sri Lanka’s annual cricket calendar, promises to showcase an array of top-notch international stars alongside Sri Lanka’s premier players. The competition will feature six men’s teams, each comprising 16 players, including six foreign players per team.
This action-packed tournament not only brings together seasoned international players but also provides a platform for the brightest young talents in Sri Lanka to collaborate and compete alongside their global counterparts.
SLC President Shammi Silva expressed confidence in the success of the tournament, stating, “I have full confidence that this tournament will be a resounding success, contributing to Sri Lanka Cricket’s ability to stay current with the evolving trends in the game.”
Silva further shared his anticipation for the event’s broad appeal, noting, “We foresee that this event will not solely captivate cricket enthusiasts but also serve as a catalyst for popularizing the tournament broadly.”
Anil Mohan, Founder and CEO of the Innovative Production Group FZE (IPG) Group and a key member of the consortium holding the event rights for the Lanka T10 League, highlighted the significance of the league in Sri Lankan Cricket. He stated, “This is a great stepping stone for us as we get to organize another exciting chapter in Sri Lankan Cricket. Our league unites the top international stars and local talent on an exciting platform for cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Together, we aim to make history and elevate the game with every thrilling match.”
