The live auction to select an investor for the divestment of SriLankan Airlines is slated to occur today, March 05, according to Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation. The bidding will unfold in real-time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as disclosed during the minister’s participation in Ada Derana’s ‘GET REAL’ segment last week.
To facilitate the live auction proceedings, a dedicated technical committee has been established, as confirmed by the minister. Post-bidding, an assessment of the proposals will be compiled into a comprehensive report, which will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration.
Expressing the need for a robust investor, Minister de Silva emphasized, “I want someone strong to come forward, who can invest at least USD 500 million and ensure job security for the 6,000 people who are working in the airline.”
