Long-Delayed Ferry Service Between Tamil Nadu and Jaffna to Launch on August 16

The long-delayed passenger ferry service connecting Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu with Kankesanthurai (KKS) in Jaffna, Northern Province, Sri Lanka, is scheduled to commence on August 16, according to Indian media reports.

IndSri Ferry Services Private Limited, the operator of the ferry, announced that bookings will open from midnight tonight.

The service was initially planned to relaunch in May but faced delays and was eventually canceled.

The ferry service was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 14 last year with the vessel ‘Cheriyapani’ after a nearly 40-year hiatus. Operated by the Shipping Corporation of India under KPVS Private Limited, the service was halted after about a week due to rough weather during the North-East monsoon.
