Low-Pressure Area Expected Over Bay of Bengal: Sri Lanka’s Met Department Issues Advisory

The Department of Meteorology has announced the likelihood of a low-pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. This system is expected to intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the subsequent two days and may strengthen further, moving closer to Sri Lanka’s eastern coast.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow updates and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.

Weather Forecast for Today

  • Rainfall:
    Showers or thundershowers are forecasted for the Northern, North Central, and Eastern provinces throughout the day. Elsewhere, rain is expected in the evening or at night. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces.
  • Misty Conditions:
    Morning mist is anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern provinces.
