The Department of Meteorology announced that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. This system is expected to intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next two days and may strengthen further as it moves closer to Sri Lanka’s eastern coast.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow updates and bulletins from the Meteorology Department regarding this weather system.
Rainfall Forecast
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Matale district. Elsewhere on the island, rain is anticipated during the evening or night.
- Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces.
Wind and Mist
Fairly strong winds of 30–40 km/h may occur over the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces and the Matale district. Morning misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern provinces.

The Meteorology Department advises the public to take precautions to minimize damages from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
