Meteorology Department Issues Red Alert for Strong Winds and Rough Seas in Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal

The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red’ advisory for strong winds and rough seas, specifically targeting naval and multi-day fishing communities in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

According to the warning, very strong winds of approximately 70-80 km/h and extremely rough seas are expected in the Arabian Sea (bounded by 13N – 23N and 55E – 70E) and the Bay of Bengal (bounded by 13N – 18N and 83E – 93E) due to the active southwest monsoon conditions.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked ‘Red’ on the map below until further notice. Those currently in these regions are urged to return to the coast or move to safer areas immediately.

The naval and fishing communities are also requested to stay updated with future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.
