Meteorology Department Issues Thunderstorm Warning: Public Urged to Take Precautions

The Meteorology Department has advised the public to take necessary precautions to reduce risks associated with lightning during upcoming thundershowers, as atmospheric conditions continue to favor afternoon storms across most parts of the island.

According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected in most regions during the evening or night over the next 36 hours. Coastal areas in the Western and Southern provinces may also experience morning showers.

The department further noted that certain areas in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces could see heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm. The public is urged to exercise caution, particularly against potential damage from localized strong winds and lightning during these storms.
