Meteorology Department Warns of Increased Likelihood of Afternoon Thundershowers Across the Island

The Department of Meteorology reports that atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island, starting today (06).

Showers or thundershowers are expected in many areas during the afternoon or night. Additionally, morning showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Trincomalee districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall, around 75 mm, is likely in some areas of the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and Uva provinces.

The public is urged to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during these thundershowers.
