Minister Alles to amend ‘Online Safety Bill’

Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, has decided to retract the Online Safety Bill he initially presented in  Parliament, opting to reintroduce it with a series of new amendments.

The ‘Online Safety Bill’ was introduced in Parliament on 3 October by the Public Security Minister. However, it faced criticism and debates from various local and international stakeholders, who argued that there was a lack of clarity in the Bill’s provisions.

In response, Minister Alles clarified that the decision to withdraw the Bill was not a result of external pressure but rather a proactive step to refine and enhance the legislation. He expressed his intent to reintroduce the Bill in Parliament after making the necessary amendments.(Ceylon Today)
