Effective from today, December 22, the Ministry of Transport and Highways has revealed plans for special public transport services during the festive season. To accommodate individuals returning to their hometowns for the holidays, an additional fleet of 100 buses will be deployed for all long-distance journeys.
Simultaneously, the special train service for the festive season is set to commence on December 23, as confirmed by N.J. Indipolage, the General Manager of Railways. A special timetable has been introduced for trains operating between Colombo Fort and Badulla, and it will be in effect until December 31.

- Colombo Fort to Badulla – Departure at 7:30 pm
- Badulla to Colombo Fort – Departure at 5:20 pm
December 23:
- Colombo Fort to Badulla – Departure at 7:30 am
- Colombo Fort to Badulla – Departure at 7:30 pm
- Kandy to Badulla – Departure at 7:00 pm
- Badulla to Colombo Fort – Departure at 5:20 pm
December 24:
- Badulla to Colombo Fort – Departure at 7:45 am
- Badulla to Kandy – Departure at 10:45 am
December 25:
- Colombo Fort to Badulla – Departure at 7:30 am

In parallel, the Sri Lanka Police have implemented a comprehensive security plan nationwide ahead of the upcoming festive season. Plainclothes police officers will be stationed at locations where the public is expected to gather.
