Motor Traffic Department Cancels Non-Renewable Licenses to Improve Road Safety

The Motor Traffic Department has announced the cancellation of all non-renewable driving licenses as part of a comprehensive effort to enhance road safety.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Nishantha Weerasinghe, stated that the decision was driven by the rising number of reported accidents.

As part of this initiative, approximately 1.1 million non-renewable heavy vehicle driving licenses will be canceled by the end of this year.

Affected license holders will be required to obtain new driving licenses within a designated grace period, during which they must undergo proper medical examinations.

Additionally, the Commissioner General revealed plans to cancel the licenses of 1 million non-renewable light vehicle driving license holders in the near future.
