Namal Rajapaksa, the presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), unveiled an ambitious plan to generate 2 million jobs over the next ten years during a public rally in Hiriyala yesterday afternoon. Emphasizing the crucial need for job creation for Sri Lanka’s youth, Rajapaksa declared, “We have a goal. I believe that within the next ten years, we should create at least 2 million jobs for the youth of this country. These jobs can be both local and international.”
He detailed his strategy to attract both domestic and international investors to establish factories in constituencies that currently lack industrial development.
Addressing concerns about taxation, Rajapaksa committed to simplifying and reducing taxes to more manageable levels. “We are not prepared to secure votes through false promises. We are clearly simplifying taxes in this country. Taxes will be reduced to an affordable extent,” he stated.
Rajapaksa also assured that government revenue would be increased without selling off public resources, highlighting his aim to establish a government that places money directly into the hands of the people.
