Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa has called on his fellow candidates to refrain from using the names of investors as part of their election campaign slogans.
Speaking at a rally in Minuwangoda today, Rajapaksa emphasized the need for political campaigns to focus on exchanging ideas and ideologies without bringing investors into the discourse.
“It’s crucial for us to prioritize those who can create jobs, attract the necessary dollars, and help develop the country by bringing in the right investors. It’s not about names but about fostering economic growth,” he said.
Rajapaksa further noted that the nationality of investors, whether from China, India, the USA, Russia, Europe, or the Middle East, is irrelevant compared to their influence in the global economy.
“Our foreign policy has historically been built on maintaining friendly relations. In the future, we will take concrete steps to attract the world’s most powerful investors, ensuring their contributions remain free from political interference,” he concluded.
