National Election Commission Introduces New Voting Flexibility for Presidential Election

The National Election Commission has introduced provisions allowing voters to cast their ballots at polling stations other than their designated locations during the upcoming Presidential election.

In an extraordinary gazette notification, the Election Commission emphasized that eligible voters can request to vote at an alternative polling station if they have a reasonable concern about being unable to vote at their designated location.

To facilitate this process, the Election Commission has made application forms available at Election Offices across all districts. Applicants are required to submit their completed forms to the Election Commission Office at Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya, on or before August 1.

Each application must be certified by the Grama Niladhari officials of the applicant’s residential area. The Election Commission stressed that applications lacking this certification will not be considered valid.

The gazette specifies that applicants should include information from the valid consolidated electoral list for the 2024 polls in their applications. This information can be obtained from district secretariats, district election offices, or the Election Commission’s official website at www.election.lk.
