In a display of international naval camaraderie, the Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS) Saif graced the port of Colombo on the morning of January 30, 2024, marking the commencement of a formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy extended a warm welcome to the visiting ship in adherence to naval traditions.

PNS Saif, a formidable 123m long Sword Class Frigate, is under the command of Captain Muhammad Ali, leading a crew of 276 dedicated personnel. The Commanding Officer of PNS Saif is anticipated to pay a courtesy call on the Commander Western Naval Area. Throughout the ship’s stay in Colombo, its crew members are set to explore some of the country’s prominent tourist attractions.

Concluding its visit, PNS Saif is scheduled to depart the island on February 1st, engaging in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a ship from the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas before its departure.

Simultaneously, over the weekend, HMS Spey of the Royal Navy also made its presence felt at the port of Colombo. This Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), boasting a length of 90.5m, is manned by a crew of 56, and is under the command of Commander Paul Caddy.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Spey is expected to pay courtesy calls on both the Commander Western Naval Area and the Director General Operations. As part of their stay in Colombo, the crew members of HMS Spey will have the opportunity to explore some of the country’s tourist attractions.

Similar to PNS Saif, HMS Spey will conclude its visit by leaving the island on January 31st, engaging in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a Sri Lanka Navy ship in Colombo seas before its departure. The back-to-back visits of these naval vessels highlight the significance of naval diplomacy and strengthen the bonds between maritime forces.
