NCB Seizes 7kg Methamphetamine Worth ₹70 Crore, Arrests Three in Smuggling Case

India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 7 kg of methamphetamine (Ice) worth ₹70 crore and arrested three individuals in connection with the case. The drugs were sourced from Manipur and were intended to be smuggled into Sri Lanka.

Acting on a tip-off, NCB officers apprehended Bysul Rahman of Ramanathapuram on July 24 as he was about to board a bus in Kilambakkam. A search of his bag revealed nearly 6 kg of methamphetamine. Further inquiries led to the arrest of two more individuals, Mansoor of Chennai and Ibrahim of Ramanathapuram, in Red Hills on Saturday. Based on their confessions, an additional 1 kg of methamphetamine was seized from an abandoned house in Red Hills.

NCB’s Chennai Zonal Director P. Aravindhan stated that the suspects sourced the drug from Moreh in Manipur with plans to smuggle it into Sri Lanka. All three were remanded in judicial custody.

This is the second such bust by the NCB since June, following the seizure of 1.47 kg of methamphetamine from a gang involving Sri Lankan refugees. The main accused in that case, Kasilingam, coordinated the smuggling operation from prison with the help of his wife. However, NCB officials confirmed that the latest bust is unrelated to the previous case.

In a separate incident, customs officers arrested Yusuf Matheen at the airport on Monday for smuggling approximately 500 grams of ganja from Bangkok.
