In a recent development, a fresh bench has been appointed to address the petition filed against the Cricket Interim Committee. This decision comes after another judge recused himself from the initially appointed bench during the hearing on Thursday (16). The petition was brought before the Court of Appeal bench, originally comprising Justices D.N. Samarakoon and Neil Iddawela.
Justice Neil Iddawela, on Thursday (16), declared his recusal from the petition’s hearing. Subsequently, the petition was referred to the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, who will now nominate a new bench to handle the proceedings.
Notably, this marks the third instance of a judge recusing themselves from the hearing of the petition. Following the recusal, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, has designated a new bench for the consideration of the relevant petition. The newly appointed Appeals Court bench will consist of Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and D.N. Samarakoon.
