National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has pledged to establish a government dedicated to eradicating the influence of drugs and the underworld.
Speaking at a public rally in Negombo, Dissanayake highlighted the entrenched relationship between local politicians and organized crime in Sri Lanka.
“Drugs and the underworld are intertwined in our country. In the distant past, Sri Lanka had crimes, but not organized crime gangs. Now, murders are orchestrated from Dubai, and drug operations are run from prison cells. These criminal networks were created by local politicians,” Dissanayake stated.
He further assured that an NPP-led government would take swift and decisive action to dismantle these organized crime networks.
