Official Polling Card Distribution Underway for Upcoming Presidential Election

The distribution of official polling cards for the upcoming presidential election is currently underway.

In light of this process, Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), has assured voters that the absence of an official polling card will not impede their ability to vote, provided they present the necessary identification documents.

“The Election Commission, in partnership with the Postal Department, is distributing official polling cards to registered voters. This card serves as an invitation to vote,” Hettiarachchi explained. “However, not receiving this card will not prevent you from voting.”

He emphasized that the essential requirements for voting include being registered on the electoral roll, knowing your assigned polling station, and presenting a valid form of identification approved by the Election Commission.

“The official polling card contains important details such as your polling station and voter number, which help streamline the voting process. Nonetheless, even if you do not receive it, there is no need for concern. It is not a significant barrier to voting,” Hettiarachchi added, encouraging voters to be confident in their ability to participate in the election.

The distribution of official polling cards began on September 3 and is expected to continue until September 14. The 2024 presidential election is scheduled for September 21.
