State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Janaka Wakkumbura, has revealed plans to introduce online payment portals for all 341 local government bodies starting in the upcoming year. The lawmaker emphasized that a mobile phone application is slated to be launched by March 31, 2024, to facilitate this initiative.
Previously, the Ministry had announced the successful implementation of the online payment system in 69 local government institutions. Notably, tax payments, including assessment taxes, are already being processed through the online system in these local government entities.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to streamline activities related to obtaining necessary approvals for the construction sector under the online system.
The introduction of this new program is aimed at providing convenience to the general public, allowing them to fulfill their requirements seamlessly. The ministry affirmed that this program will be rolled out to cover all 341 local government bodies across the island before the conclusion of the current year.
