In his Christmas message today, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa underscored the imperative to identify those responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks and deliver justice to the victims.
Premadasa lamented that Sri Lankan Christians have, for several years, commemorated both Easter and Christmas as victims, with the tragedy’s impact persisting due to the absence of justice for the victims.
In his heartfelt message, Premadasa remarked, “Tomorrow marks the significant day of Christmas, commemorating the wonderful birth of Jesus Christ, known as ‘the Prince of Peace.’ God, in sending His Son into the world, envisioned the revival of the values of His Kingdom on earth.
“Christ brought eternal light to darkened hearts. The joyous Christmas, teaching the world the exceptional lesson of sharing, is celebrated not only by Christians but by people worldwide, transcending race and religion. Jesus extended his hands of love to forge a world brimming with love, affection, peace, harmony, and equality, alleviating hearts burdened with sorrow. For millennia, Christians globally have witnessed the light of Christmas Day in December, celebrating the birth of Jesus with church bells ringing amidst candlelit rituals.
“True joy in Christmas is found in living by the profound meaning of the message of love, brotherhood, and aiding the needy. From humble abodes to grand residences, people celebrate Christmas in diverse ways. As the Holy Bible states, ‘A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.’ This underscores Jesus’ guidance to dedicate ourselves to realizing a country and a world steeped in goodness and humanity.
“The essence of Christmas is to bring peace to all people on earth. We extend warm wishes for a Merry Christmas filled with peace and joy, delivering the liberating message to the world by embodying the true meaning of Christmas!
