Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa announced that approximately 64,000 police officers will be deployed from today (12) to ensure security across all constituencies during the general election.
“Thirteen thousand three hundred and eighty-three polling stations have been set up for the 13,314 constituencies. Police officers will be on duty on election day and the day after, and if needed, they will remain deployed beyond that,” he stated.
The deployment includes nearly 3,200 Special Task Force (STF) officers, with a total of 12,227 personnel directly involved in election duties. In total, around 70,000 police officers will be engaged in election security efforts, according to DIG Thalduwa.
He added, “In addition to the police force, approximately 11,000 army personnel will be stationed at key locations to support security, especially in areas where police officers are assigned to election duties. Army officers are also on standby should additional support be needed.”
DIG Thalduwa urged the public to cooperate in ensuring a free and peaceful election.
