Pakistan’s Supreme Court Grants Bail to Former PM Imran Khan in State Secrets Case

Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and one of his aides in connection with an alleged leak of state secrets, according to his lawyer.

The immediate release of Khan from jail remains uncertain as he faces multiple arrest warrants in several other cases, noted Salman Safdar, one of Khan’s legal representatives.

Imran Khan, a former cricket star, has been incarcerated since August following his conviction on corruption charges in a separate case. He has maintained his plea of not guilty to the charges of leaking state secrets, which are linked to the public disclosure of a classified cable sent to Islamabad by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington last year.
