Parents are protesting today, calling for a proper resolution to the problems with this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Examination paper.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Education decided to award marks for the three problematic questions, following the recommendations of a committee composed of local and international experts appointed for the examination.
This morning, parents gathered in front of the Ministry of Education in Pelawatta to voice their concerns, urging a swift solution to the issues in the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
Additionally, a group of parents from several schools in the Elpitiya Education Zone also protested in front of the Elpitiya Zonal Education Office.
“Our children have already suffered a lot due to COVID-19, fuel shortages, and teachers’ strikes. After all their hard work, they encountered issues with the exam paper. It’s unfair to them,” expressed one parent.
News 1st contacted the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Thilaka Jayasundara, for a comment.
She indicated that a few protesting parents would be given the opportunity to discuss the situation, during which the Ministry’s position on the matter will be explained.
