The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) has announced that it will make a statement tomorrow (26th) regarding a potential reduction in the price of bread.
The president of the association, N.K. Jayawardena, indicated that a special discussion was held yesterday (24th) concerning the reduction of bread prices, but no final agreement was reached.
The consideration of a price reduction follows recent comments by Minister of Trade Nalin Fernando, who warned that a controlled price for bread would be imposed if bakery owners do not take steps to lower prices.
These remarks have prompted bakery owners to focus on reducing the prices of bakery products, including bread.
Jayawardena stated that a final decision on whether the price of bread will be reduced is expected to be made tomorrow.
