Postal Ballots for Presidential Election to Be Delivered; Postal Workers’ Leave Cancelled

The National Election Commission has announced that secure packets containing postal ballots will be delivered to the Department of Posts.

Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe confirmed that these packets will then be forwarded to their respective destinations.

In preparation for the upcoming presidential election, all postal workers’ leave has been cancelled until the election concludes. However, Deputy Postmaster General Ranasinghe noted that postal workers may obtain leave for essential reasons with approval from the Deputy Postmaster Generals in charge of the provinces.

This year, 712,319 government employees are eligible for postal voting. The postal voting process for the presidential election is scheduled for September 4, 5, and 6.

Additionally, government employees who are unable to vote by mail on these dates will have another opportunity on September 11 and 12.
