The Election Commission announced the commencement of postal voting for the 2024 General Election, starting today (October 30). Voting can be conducted at all police stations, District Secretariats, Election Commission Offices, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) offices.
Postal voting will also be available at these locations on November 4. For members of the armed forces and other government institutions, additional postal voting days are set for November 1 and November 4.
Those unable to cast their postal votes on these dates may vote at their respective District Secretariat where their workplace is located. The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Rathnayake, noted that official identification cards are not required for postal voting.
Deputy Postmaster General (Operations) D.A. Rajitha K. Ranasinghe confirmed that preparations are underway to start accepting completed reserved packets containing registered postal ballot papers beginning today.
Additionally, Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of People’s Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL), announced that nearly a thousand officials will be deployed to monitor the postal voting process, ensuring transparency and fairness in this year’s General Election.
