Postal Voting for the 2024 Presidential Election Begins Today

Postal voting for the upcoming Presidential Election 2024 officially commenced today (September 4). The Election Commission has announced that postal voting is available for employees working in District Secretariat Offices, Election Commission Offices, Senior DIG and DIG Offices, SP and ASP Offices, Police Stations, Special Task Force (STF) Camps, Special Police Units, and VIP Security Divisions.

Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, emphasized the importance of adhering to the designated voting schedule, stating:

“Please ensure you vote on the designated day and time assigned by your certifying officer. If you are unable to vote on the specified day, a special postal ballot marking center will be set up at the District Secretariat in your district on September 11 or 12. This facility will be available across all 25 districts. You can vote in front of a certifying officer appointed by us.”

For the 2024 Presidential Election, the Kurunegala District has the highest number of postal voters at 76,977, while the Mullaitivu District has the lowest, with 3,566. In the Colombo District, there are 35,636 eligible postal voters.

Postal voting will take place today (4th), tomorrow (5th), and the day after (6th), with voting hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
