President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the recent severe weather conditions across the country. He has instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence to prioritize the safety of people in districts hit by floods and landslides and to ensure that relief operations are effectively supported, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
The President emphasized the government’s commitment to assisting all citizens affected by the disaster, engaging local officials in the impacted areas to ensure timely delivery of aid. He urged the public to remain cautious during this period.
Additionally, President Dissanayake has instructed the Ministry of Finance to allocate Rs. 50 million for relief efforts and called on state officials to coordinate efficiently in delivering aid to those in need.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, 24,492 individuals from 6,018 families have been affected by the floods and landslides in 11 districts. Currently, 2,200 people from 584 families are being housed in 23 relief centers, with ongoing relief operations coordinated by state officials through the office of the Chief of Defence Staff.
