President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Receives Blessings from Buddhist Leaders, Emphasizes National Reforms

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the Amarapura Maha Nikaya headquarters in Wellawatte this morning (05), where he received blessings from the Acting Maha Nayaka, Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithri Murthi Maha Nayaka Thero. Several senior Nayaka Theros from the Amarapura Maha Nikaya were also present to invoke blessings for the President, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

During the discussions, the Chief Prelate stressed the importance of building a strong state by fully utilizing Sri Lanka’s resources, which, he noted, would allow the country to rise as an independent global player. The President acknowledged that this period, with a General Election already announced, is a politically transitional time and expressed his intention to fast-track key initiatives after securing full Parliamentary power following the election.

The Chief Prelate and senior Theros commended the President for maintaining peace and avoiding any violent incidents post-election. They also highlighted that, during the last Presidential election, some groups attempted to use religion to campaign against the President, but these accusations have since been proven false. However, the Maha Sangha cautioned the President to remain alert to similar challenges in the future.

President Dissanayake pointed out that the election results reflect the public’s desire for a shift in the traditional political system, and that the people have rejected the baseless rumors spread about him and his team.

During the conversation, the Maha Sangha raised the possibility of introducing a new constitution. In response, the President affirmed his commitment to this idea, stating that any new constitution would only be implemented after comprehensive public discussions and a referendum, unlike the previous government’s amendments. He pledged to introduce a constitutional amendment that aligns with the people’s expectations, once stability is restored.

Later, President Dissanayake also visited the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya headquarters in Narahenpita, where he received blessings from Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Nayaka Thero and other senior monks, who chanted Seth Pirith.

In their discussions, the Maha Sangha urged the President to appoint qualified individuals as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Governors, and Ministry Secretaries, free from political interference. The President assured them that these appointments would be based on merit and aligned with his policies.

Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Nayaka Thero expressed confidence that the trust placed in the President by the people during the last election would be fulfilled, with the blessings of the Sangha guiding him toward realizing the public’s aspirations.
