President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has identified several major challenges affecting children today, including poverty, malnutrition, inadequate healthcare and sanitation, environmental degradation, educational disparities, social inequalities, and the dangers posed by substance abuse and technology misuse.
In his Children’s Day message, the President emphasized the need to liberate children from harmful prejudices, social pressures, and the exam-centric education system, which stifles their psychosocial growth.
“Our mission is to restore the joyful, carefree childhood every child deserves,” he said, noting that by fostering a generation of mentally and spiritually healthy children, we can cultivate compassionate, independent, and creative individuals who will help shape a better future.
